YOUR CONFIDENCE IS IN GOD
“And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together. When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.” (1 Samuel 17:10-11 KJV)
In spiritual warfare, one of the things the enemy attacks is your confidence. Once you lose confidence in a battle, you have already failed in that battle. That’s what Goliath was doing to David when he was saying things that could instil fear in him. Goliath decimated the confidence of Saul and the armies of Israel for forty days. None of them could come out until David came, and when David showed up, Goliath started attacking his confidence too with the same words he had been using, trying to induce fear; but when he spoke to David, David replied and said, “… that the God that gave me victory over the lion and the bear will deliver you into my hands.”
The reason why some people fail in life is because their confidence level is low. When you hear negative words like ‘you are ugly,’ ‘you are too fat,’ ‘you are too short,’ ‘you are lazy,’ over a period of time it becomes ingrained somewhere in your subconscious. Words spoken to you either positive or negative, over a period of time will affect your self-esteem and ultimately your confidence. Many people are now second-guessing themselves, the drive to do life is gone. You don’t even want to try because someone has damaged your self-esteem and reduced your confidence. The ultimate goal of negative words is to damage the self-confidence of the person.
Once the enemy succeeds in attacking your confidence, he has succeeded in winning the battle, because on the day of battle, if you lose your confidence, you won’t show up. Remember David’s response to Goliath, speaking about the victory that God has wrought through him. Speak God’s Word to whatever is attacking your confidence and see God work His wonders through you.
