STOP LOOKING BACK
“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14 KJV)
Paul the Apostle teaches us the power of letting go in the opening scripture. We can’t move forward if we are constantly looking backwards, whether it is at past mistakes, regrets, or even victories. When we fix our gaze on the future via God’s Word, we find the strength to press on toward God’s purposes for our lives. Lot’s wife couldn’t resist looking back at her old life, and it cost her dearly.
When God calls us to a new direction, we must resist the temptation to cling to the past. God is calling us into a future of new opportunities, but we must trust Him and leave the past behind. We can stop looking back with regret or shame, because God’s grace is greater than our past. Embrace His mercy and walk boldly into the new day He has given you, because His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23).
God is always doing something new. Dwelling on the past blinds us to the fresh work God is doing in our lives right now. When we keep our eyes fixed on the past, we miss out on the blessings of the present and the hope of the future. Letting go of what is behind frees us to step into God’s new purposes for us. Something new is coming your way today!
Scripture for the day
Isaiah 43:18-19 KJV
[18] Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. [19] Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
Confession
I am in Christ; therefore, I am a new creation. I have a glorious future ahead of me, in Jesus’ Name.
