THE COVENANT OF FATHERHOOD
“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” (John 15:5 KJV)
Fatherhood is a covenant we find existing between God and His Children (believers in Christ Jesus). The Bible describes God as the vine, and we believers, who feed off the vine, as the branches. We are greatly dependent on God for our spiritual nourishment and the fulfilment of our needs. Fathers are very important in that they provide guidance, mentorship, and leadership that your knowledge acquisition, global exposure or position may not give you.
It is often said that fathers help you go further in life. However, for you to gain much from fathers, you need to develop a growing, consistent and vibrant relationship with them. The covenant of fatherhood is not just about the role a father plays in your life but about the relationship that empowers him to fulfill that role. Wisdom dictates that you honour fathers so that they may be a blessing to you, as scriptures say that the less is blessed of the greater.
The blessings of a father cannot be bought but can be transferred to you. Never joke with the words and pronouncements that come from someone you regard as a father. Their words, no matter how short or unimportant they may seem in the present moment, can go into your future and affect it positively or negatively. Also do not forget that our ultimate Father is God, and it takes a daily commitment of prayer, fellowship and communion with the Holy Spirit to draw from Him, and to allow His power flow through us.
Scripture for the day
1 Thessalonians 2:11-12 KJV
[11] As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children, [12] That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.
Confession
The covenant of fatherhood with my spiritual and earthly fathers translates into protection, progress and prosperity in my life, in Jesus’ Name.
