BALANCING SPIRITUALITY AND EXCELLENCE
“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;” (Colossians 3:23 KJV)
In our journey of faith, we often seek to deepen our spirituality and grow closer to God. However, a common pitfall is the tendency to neglect excellence in our work and responsibilities while focusing alone on our spirituality. However, excellence in all things is what shows our spirituality. True spirituality encompasses every aspect of our lives, including how we approach our daily tasks and commitments.
We see from our opening scripture that we are to work with all our heart, as if we are working for the Lord. This perspective elevates our everyday work to acts of worship. When we approach our work with diligence and excellence, we honour God and reflect His character in our actions. Excellence is not about perfection but about doing our best and striving to improve, knowing that our efforts are ultimately for God.
Neglecting excellence while pursuing spirituality can lead to a disconnect between our Christian faith and our work. God desires that we bring our best to all areas of life, using our skills, talents and gifts to fulfil our everyday responsibilities and contribute positively to all our areas of endeavour.
