SIN AFFECTS PRAYER LIFE

“If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: But verily God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer.” (Psalm 66:18-19 KJV)

Prayer is a powerful connecting factor between a believer and God. Prayer allows you to communicate your heart’s desires, ask for guidance, and experience His presence. But there is one obstacle that can hinder the effectiveness of our prayers, and that is sin. When sin is willfully desired, it creates a lacuna between you and God, affecting your relationship and your prayer life.

By its very nature, sin is rebellion against God. When you allow sin to linger unaddressed, it creates a spiritual distance between you and God. This separation doesn’t mean that God will stop loving you, and neither does it mean that He will abandon you. However sin creates a wall that makes intimate connection prayer is meant to facilitate nearly impossible. Sin ensures that you do not enjoy the fulness of fellowship with God.

You cannot please God while clinging to the things that offend Him. Sin reduces your boldness, renders you vulnerable and makes you susceptible to the devil’s oppression. By continuously enslaving yourself to the devil through sin, you reduce yourself to his stooge and you get to be controlled more by the forces of darkness. It is often said that when you find yourself in a pit, stop digging. It is high time you stop your lifestyle of sin and turn back to God today. This will help you develop a vibrant prayer life and assure you of victory on all sides.
