SEEKING HELP WHEN NEEDED
“Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 KJV)
It is not surprising that people often view seeking help from others as a sign of weakness. This view is not in line with what Christianity stands for. Seeking and getting help is an essential part of living and walking in the community of believers as it goes a long way in reflecting God’s love. God created us to be interdependent, to support and care for one another as we navigate life’s challenges.
By carrying each other’s burdens and helping to solve each other’s problems, we fulfil God’s Word, which calls us to love one another as He loves us. This implies that when any one is struggling among us, reaching out for help should not only be encouraged but should be made totally acceptable. Helping others is an opportunity to serve them.
When seeking help, be clear and honest about your needs. Never cajole anyone into helping you through scheming, mind-games, guilt-tripping or deception. Share your problems in a responsible and unentitled manner. When you do this, you invite others to perform the Lord’s work in your life. Never be ashamed of seeking help to your own detriment. The help you need is around you; make use of it!
