EMBRACING THE CROSS
“Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.'” (Matthew 16:24 NIV)
Embracing the cross is more than accepting life’s hardships; it is a call to live out the gospel in its fullest expression. Jesus’ invitation to take up our cross is an invitation to surrender; to lay down our desires, ambitions, and even our comforts, in order to follow Him.
The cross is a symbol of sacrifice, but it is also a symbol of hope. It reminds us that true life is found not in holding onto our will, but in letting go and trusting God’s perfect plan. When we embrace the cross, we align ourselves with the path Jesus walked—a path marked by obedience, love, and sacrifice.
In a world that often promotes self-interest, embracing the cross is countercultural. It calls us to love when it’s hard or difficult, to forgive when it hurts, and to serve when it costs us. But as we do, we experience the deep joy and peace that come from walking in step with our Saviour.
Scripture for the day

And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
Confession
I choose to walk in love, obedience, and humility. I am empowered by His grace to follow the path He has set before me, in Jesus’ Name.
