GOD LOATHES BACKBITING
“Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, Him I will destroy; The one who has a haughty look and a proud heart, Him I will not endure.” (Psalm 101:5 NKJV)
From our opening text, it is obvious that God does not condone slandering and backbiting from His children. No Christian was called into the ministry of backbiting. Rather, we were called to minister the good news to people, seek the good of others and speak well of our neighbours in a show of our love towards them.
Backbiting comes from a place of hatred, bitterness and malice, but we have been given the greatest commandment to love God and to love people. A Christian must be wary of any person who engages in backbiting or gossiping others, because anyone who speaks ill of others to you will speak ill of you to others. If your spirit is in the right place, you should feel uncomfortable when in the midst of slanderous people. Therefore, always check yourself.
Whenever people backbite you, wisdom suggests that you do not deal with them in a similar fashion. People who talk behind you will always be left behind you. Never condescend to the level of backbiters or mockers because God has elevated you beyond what they can see, and soon enough, everyone will celebrate the grace working for you. You will function above only!
